Location and Access
Salamanca is located in the west of Spain in the autonomous region of Castilla y León 214 kilometres from Madrid.
If you are coming from outside Spain the simplest way to get here is to take a plane to Madrid (Barajas Airport) and then a bus (Avanza Bus) or train (RENFE); both run frequently. The journey from Madrid to Salamanca takes approximately two hours. If you are coming from Portugal or France you can travel by bus or train.

If you choose the bus, there is a line of coaches of the Avanza Bus Company that runs directly from the Madrid-Barajas Airport to Salamanca. The Barajas stop is at Terminal 1 of the airport at the car park opposite the arrival hall. Tickets for this service can be bought and timetables can be consulted on the company's website www.avanzabus.com, at the habitual ticket offices and in the airport itself, and at the El Corte Inglés travel agency on the first floor of T1. Regular bus routes with their corresponding links allow Salamanca to be reached from any Spanish or European city. If you are at the Madrid-Barajas Airport, to reach the Autobuses Sur bus station of Madrid (Compañía Avanza Bus, Calle Méndez Álvaro) your best bet is to take line 8 on the underground to the Nuevos Ministerios stop and then line 6 to Méndez Álvaro.

BY TRAIN

If you prefer to travel by train, RENFE has daily services to Madrid, Lisbon, Oporto, Paris, and all their connections. To get to the Chamartín train station in Madrid from the Madrid-Barajas Airport, take line 8 on the underground as far as the Nuevos Ministerios stop and then change to line 10 which will take you to Chamartín.
The Alvia trains take 1 hour and 36 minutes to travel between Madrid and Salamanca. You can consult the timetables on their website www.renfe.es or telephone +34 902 24 02 02.
